Building a better future

Talisman Hire East London, established in 2015, aspires to build a better future, and we are proud to be Talisman’s charity partner since 2018, as we build better futures for the children who attend African Angels. Jason and Carrie Bowen, the owners of Talisman made a deliberate choice to partner with African Angels, supporting our vision to see all learners reach their full potential and grow into fine South African citizens.

Talisman are hands on sponsors, understanding that giving back is good for business, and good for South Africa. Over the year they have sponsored our annual African Angels Ale Trail, Golf Days and Beach Walks and are always at the end of the phone when we need a hand.

It is handy to have a tool hire company as a partner. In December African Angels opened a pop-up ice cream shop in Chintsa, to give some of our older learners a real work experience in an operating business, and hoping to earn additional income for African Angels. When Eskom decided to implement load shedding in the hottest month of the year, when we had to keep ice cream frozen, Jason immediately delivered a generator so we could continue to operate.

When Covid struck, Talisman jumped in again and donated a mobile, foot operated hand washing basin with innovative paper towel roller so our staff and learners could safely sanitise their hands during the school day. Carrie used her extensive counselling skills when one of our learners and her family needed assistance, providing invaluable support at a time of need.

During the refurbishment of the Chintsa East Community Learning many hours
of back breaking labour were spared when Talisman lent a concrete floor sander.

Sponsoring events provides amazing brand opportunities for a business, but Talisman also quietly, sponsor two of our African Angels scholars; Othandwayo in Grade 5 and Siphesihle in Grade 2.

Businesses in East London get so many requests for support from charities, and Talisman doesn’t only support African Angels – they also support another local school and have been heavily involved in the upliftment of our community. They have been hands on in clearing the verges along our dangerously winding, road to make it safer for pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.
