Rotary Club of Gately – Survival Gardens Project update

Posted on Posted in community, Sponsors

We reported on this project in our October newsletter

With the help of the Rotary Club of Gately, we were able to manage the delivery of mesh, poles, wire, fence nails, garden tools (fork spade, spade, hoe, wheelbarrow, Hippo roller), seedings and horse manure to over 68 gardeners, identified in the Cintsa East community as already attempting to grow vegetables for their own consumption or for sale. During the project, gardeners were visited to confirm resources were being used and to give them an opportunity to order additional resources based on their own specific needs.

With Rotary Club of Gately’s support, the seeds, protected from pigs and chickens by fences, planted in manure enriched soils have thrived and are providing food for our Chintsa East community.

We thank The Rotary Club of Gately for their continued belief in, and support of our school, our staff and our community. Without such dedicated partners, we would not be able to have the impact that we do on the lives of the Chintsa East children and their families.
