From the Principal’s Desk – Visible Learning

The teachers are well into their third Visible Learning course with Corwin, entitled “How Students Learn”. There are two major attributes underlining the top influences on student achievement. One of these is the Mindframes of how our teachers think. The second, which forms the basis of this course, is teaching students the critical strategies of learning. Leading from this course, we are strengthening our student toolbox. There are 400 different strategies! The trick is understanding the variability in effectiveness of these strategies and knowing which to use for which student on which day.
John Hattie speaks about the Skill, Will and Thrill, and makes reference to the Goldilocks Principle – not too hard, not too easy, not too boring. It’s quite an exciting challenge!

“It’s not just what you know, it’s what you know about what you know, and it’s what you know about how you know, that is crucial to learning.”
