Rotary Club of Gately has sponsored our Grade 4 teacher Tawanda Mangwiro for the FYV of 2021. This intensive leadership course is organised by the Rotary Clubs of Gately to help young people to develop their skills as leaders while having fun and making connections. During the seven month course Tawanda was given the opportunity to:

• Build communication and problem-solving skills
• Discover strategies for becoming a dynamic leader in his school and community
• Learn from community leaders, inspirational speakers, and peer mentors
• Unlock his potential to turn motivation into action
• Have fun and form lasting friendships

Tawanda says, “The course was not at all what I expected – I thought I would be sitting behind a desk, listening to the lecturer and writing notes to prepare for an exam. Instead, it was an informative and very interactive course that was full of surprises.”

The sessions, hosted once a month, included presentations by leaders in our community explaining their journey’s to leadership success, team building sessions and discussion sessions.

Tawanda says, “A key factor in my success was having my own Rotary Mentor as a sounding board with whom I could check ideas and discuss difficult topics.

“I am very grateful to Rotary for giving me this opportunity I feel that I have developed myself and my skills to the point where I am able to give back to the community around me. I feel I am a better person, a better citizen and am able to be an active, principle-driven a leader.”

We thank The Rotary Club of Gately for their continued belief in, and support of our school, our staff and our community. Without such dedicated partners, we would not be able to have the impact that we do on the lives of the Chintsa East children and their families.
