African Angels recognises “Aunty Sharon”

2022 is a milestone year for our wonderful African Angels School. It is our tenth anniversary year, although in actual fact, our eleventh year of educating the children of Chintsa East.
Sharon Edworthy, our Principal, is also our founding teacher and celebrates her 11th year at African Angels. It is largely thanks to Sharon’s compassion, her quiet yet firm leadership; her incredible memory and attention to detail, coupled with her resolute focus on what is best for the children and their families, that has seen the School go from strength to strength.
Too often schools become inward looking and more about the School, than the children. Whilst we have Sharon at the helm this will never be the case at African Angels. Sharon constantly asks “What is best for the children?” and though this sometimes means making difficult decisions, if it is best for the children, hard decisions will be made.
Sharon has grown our school from 28 children in 2012, to 156 in 2022, and 49 in 14 different high schools. She has filled the role of teacher, mentor, mother, house mother, confidant, disciplinarian and coach.
She has been described as “somebody who embodies gentle power” and a “beacon” for the African Angels School.
We would be lost without her, and so would our African Angels and their families.
Congratulations Sharon on an incredible 11 years of dedicated service!
